Open Enrollment 2027 Florida: Dates and Deadlines

By Prime Health Consultants · Last updated October 30, 2026 · 6 min read

Quick answer

Open Enrollment for 2027 Marketplace coverage on HealthCare.gov, which Florida uses, runs from November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Enroll or change plans by December 15 for coverage to start January 1. If you enroll from December 16 through January 15, coverage starts February 1. After January 15, you generally need a special enrollment period.

When is open enrollment for 2027 in Florida?

Open Enrollment is the yearly period when people can enroll in a Marketplace health plan. Florida uses the federal Marketplace at HealthCare.gov. For 2027 coverage, HealthCare.gov lists these dates.

Your coverage starts only after you pay your first premium, so finishing the application is not the last step. The dates below are for Marketplace plans. Employer plans and private plans outside the Marketplace follow different timing, covered later in this article.

Open Enrollment dates for 2027 coverage on HealthCare.gov
DateWhat it means
November 1, 2026Open Enrollment begins. You can apply for 2027 coverage or update your application.
December 15, 2026Last day to enroll or change plans for coverage that starts January 1, 2027.
January 1, 2027Coverage starts for people who enrolled or changed plans by December 15 and made their first payment.
December 16, 2026 to January 15, 2027You can still enroll or change plans, but coverage starts February 1, 2027 after your first payment.
January 15, 2027Open Enrollment ends. This is the last day to enroll or change Marketplace plans for the year.
After January 15, 2027You can enroll or change plans only if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

What happens if you miss open enrollment?

After January 15, you can still enroll in a Marketplace plan if you qualify for a special enrollment period (SEP). HealthCare.gov defines it as a time outside the yearly Open Enrollment period when you can sign up for health insurance. HealthCare.gov says an SEP lets you get coverage between January 16 and October 31, if you qualify.

You qualify after certain life events. Most have a 60-day window, so do not wait. If you lose coverage, you can apply up to 60 days before or after it ends, and HealthCare.gov may ask you for documents that prove it.

  • Household changes, such as getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child.
  • Moving to a new ZIP code or county. A move only for medical treatment or vacation does not count.
  • Losing other coverage, such as job-based coverage, or COBRA running out. Canceling COBRA on purpose before it ends does not count.
  • Other events HealthCare.gov lists, such as becoming a U.S. citizen or leaving incarceration.

Is open enrollment at work the same thing?

No. Employer plans set their own enrollment period. Each employer decides when its yearly enrollment happens, and it may fall at a different time than the Marketplace window. HealthCare.gov notes that job-based plans may have different enrollment periods.

Ask your employer or HR contact for the plan's enrollment dates, deadlines, and the date coverage starts. If you leave a job or lose job-based coverage, that can be a qualifying event for a Marketplace special enrollment period, and the 60-day window above applies.

Do private plans outside the Marketplace follow these dates?

Not necessarily. Private plans outside the Marketplace are sold directly by insurers or through licensed agents, and they are not Marketplace plans. Their enrollment timing depends on the plan. Some can be bought outside the Marketplace's Open Enrollment window, and others may have their own rules.

Prime Health Consultants (PHC) offers private plans only and cannot enroll anyone in a Marketplace plan. If you may qualify for premium tax credits, or you have an ongoing health condition, check HealthCare.gov first. Marketplace plans must cover pre-existing conditions, and the credits are available only through the Marketplace.

This article covers dates and steps only. It does not cover 2027 tax credit amounts. HealthCare.gov shows what you qualify for when you apply.

What should you gather before you enroll?

HealthCare.gov publishes an application checklist. The version we checked is dated September 2025, so look for updates before you apply. Having these items ready makes the application faster.

  • The size of your household, and who will apply together.
  • Home and mailing addresses for everyone applying.
  • Social Security numbers and birth dates for everyone applying. The application asks for Social Security numbers for others in your household too, even if they are not applying.
  • Information on how you plan to file your taxes.
  • Employer and income information for everyone in your household, such as pay stubs or W-2s.
  • Your best estimate of your household income for the coverage year. If it changes, update your application.
  • Policy numbers for any current health plans.
  • Details on any job-based plan you or someone in your household is eligible for, even one you do not enroll in.
  • Immigration document information for any lawfully present immigrant who needs coverage.

What timing mistakes should you avoid?

Most problems come from dates, not paperwork. Watch for these.

  • Waiting until January and expecting coverage on January 1. After December 15, coverage starts February 1.
  • Finishing the application but not making the first payment. Coverage starts only after you pay.
  • Letting an income estimate go stale. HealthCare.gov asks you to update your application if your income changes.
  • Passing the 60-day window after a life event.
  • Skipping proof of lost coverage. Without it, you will not qualify for a special enrollment period.

When does it make sense to talk to a licensed advisor?

For Marketplace dates, applications, and credits, HealthCare.gov or its call center at 1-800-318-2596 is the place to go. Tax credits are reconciled on your federal tax return, so confirm how they apply to you with a tax professional.

A PHC advisor is licensed and can explain private plan options in English and Spanish, including how enrollment timing works for the plan you are considering. If you missed the Marketplace window, first check whether you qualify for a special enrollment period, then compare any other options you have.

Prime Health Consultants is not affiliated with HealthCare.gov or any government agency. The private plans we offer are not Marketplace plans and don't qualify for premium tax credits. To see Marketplace plans and any savings you qualify for, visit HealthCare.gov.
